Wordsmith Cheese

From the hallowed halls of the Cheddar X comes this week's Q&A fun-o-rama! This week's theme is about words that are good, words that are bad and words that make you want to smack someone upside the head.

1. What word or words do you just love?
I like words that are precise and appropriate for their context. I had a big thing for "asshat" last summer but its waned by now.

2. What word or words make you want to tear your hair and run up and down the street with your fingers in your ears going "Lalalalalalalala"?
Ashlee Simpson is a pairing of two words that does that but that's not really the point of the question. "Zany" is one that I absolutely hate. "Madcap" is another. "Musing" or "Musings" is another, its a stupid word that denotes the little thought you've put in.

3. What words do people commonly misuse that make you mad/crazy?
Addicted when people actually want to say addictive. My lovely wife has a tendency to drop the words "to be" as in "the towels need to be washed", she'll say "the towels need washed". It drives me crazy.

4. What's the prettiest word you know?
Graydon's a really nice one. Luminant is good too.

5. What word sounds like what it means?
Gong's a good one if you slow the intonation down.

6. What word or words just make no sense? (I.e., a word like "whatsoever" is a pretty bizarre word when you look at it). Irregardless is a nonsense word, same thing with ain'tnot. But then, some nonsense words are just fine.

7. What words soothe you?
"All done" as the doc's removing the glove, that's a nice one. But I think Easy got it right with "Play Ball!" I can't wait!

Okay, that'll do for this week's Cheese. Time to get rolling on the next set of questions.
