Is Wal-Mart "Peanut Buttering" Itself?
The New York Times reports that Wal-Mart Trips as It Changes a Bit Too Fast.

And there's an analogy that was used to describe what's happened at Yahoo that came from a leaked internal memo that described Yahoo's attempts to be everything to everyone all the time as peanut butter being spread too thin.

Maybe that's what is happening with Wal-Mart. Or maybe people are fed up with the crap you have to put up with to get those low prices. I don't know but I like watching them stumble though I do not expect them to fall, they have far too much market momentum propelling them. $312 billion is a damned lot of money in sales.

Surprisingly Weak is 0.1% Down?
Wal-Mart sees weak sales as holiday season starts.

I guess when you're expecting same-store year over year revenue increases, its always a surprising turn when the number comes up with a minus sign out front.

Wal-Mart isn't the only one suffering as the housing market cools across the country. The story doesn't meantion what monthly sales in actual dollars are for Wal-Mart, like the .1% decline this November.

The larger economic trend this signals is more ominous as the entire economy may be stumbling a bit right now, led by the housing market.

Well, That Didn't Take Long for Wal-Mart to Cave
Wal-Mart Yields To Protests Threatened By Group and has now promised to stay away from "controversial causes" which is basically like saying they are going to toe the line for the bottom line.

Wal-Mart, I've lost more respect for you. Giving in to intolerant religio-haters just empowers them all the more to tell you what you can and cannot support.

That's sad. What if they decide that selling medicine to non-Christians is a sin and threaten to boycott for that? What if they want whites-only stores? What if they want discounts for their religious affiliations? The can of worms you've opened with your caving is your own damned doing, wallow in your slime.

Wal-Marts to be Boycotted by Conservatives Over Gay Conspiracy
No, really. Wal-Mart Stores Faces Boycotts Over Support for Gays which is kind of interesting. In a good way. I'm of the mind that anything that stirs up the fundie blood is a good thing. Get all riled about gay people shopping at and getting commissions for sending other shoppers to Wal-Mart, its called a referal bonus.

My fear is that they will succeed in forcing Wal-Mart to change its stance on supporting GLBT issues and groups. And that would certainly be a step in the wrong direction.

But I know that Wal-Mart could give a damn about right and wrong, they care solely about their bottom line and their bottom line is delivered on the shoulders of the fundies.

Wal-Mart Spam
Techdirt: Wal-Mart Helps Kids Spam Parents With Gift Wishes and the Parents are shocked at Wal-Mart's online wish list that makes it appear that their kids have gone to the site, found a whole bunch of expensive toys and sent an email to their parents to let them know.

The only thing is that the kids don't really choose the stuff. They are shown a toy and given a Do you want this? Yes or no. And, as most kids will, they say heck yeah.

Marketing to kids like this is pretty scummy, even for Wal-Mart. And hey, I just invented a new word, scumarketing. Pretty easy to figure out what that one's about, eh?

Okay, Now THIS Is Satire
Life is too short to not have a decent laugh every now and again. This isn't a belly laugher and it does actually raise some valid points but its not serious, its merely intended to demonstrate Wal-Mart's hypocrisy in the products they choose to sell and those they refuse to sell based on violent or sexual content.

With a smile, I offer The Wal-Mart Bible Letter. Enjoy.

Wal-Mart Tries to Buy Council Influence
Is Walmart Trying To Buy Antioch City Council?

I saw this news piece tonight about Wal-Mart dropping $50,000 into a local election for town council in Antioch, California. Funnily enough, there's a proposal for Wal-Mart to expand their store in Antioch by an additional 200,000 square feet. But the recepient, Manny Soliz, says he hasn't made up his mind about the expansion. Um yuh, can we guess which way you're leaning now that your buddies kicked down fifty large?
But State Senator Tom Torlakson, a supporter of Moore, says that kind of money comes with expectations.

Tom Torlakson: "For them to come in at this time when there is an issue in front of the council that is unseemly and outrageous."
To which I would wholeheartedly agree and add that Wal-Mart should be ashamed of themselves. But shame is for people and corporations with a conscience.

It wasn't an illegal campaign donation but it certainly does send up big red flags (probably with Low Prices, Always written on them).

How long would it take Wal-Mart to make that $50k buyoff back? About ten minutes. And then its lots more profit.

If you live in Antioch, vote against Manny Soliz.
Its easy to remember, it rhymes with sleaze.

Wal-Mart Bans bin Laden "Lookalike"
Oscar 'Bin Laden': How Wal-Mart Banned a Terrorist Look-Alike: "Wal-Mart is making life difficult for Oscar Brufani, a 52-year-old man who makes his living delivering potato chips in Buenos Aires. One of the corporation's store managers thinks he looks like Osama bin Laden -- and won't let him come near her store."

But he really doesn't look like Osama bin Laden at all, not to me. Sure, he's a long beard but his skin is lighter, his eyes are softer and he doesn't have those big ol' ears.

Nice work, Wal-Mart, making friends by demonstrating overt and lame racism! Woot!
