UFC 124 Predictions

Time for another prediction post for this weekend's rather exciting UFC 124 showdown between Georges St. Pierre (the best fighter on the planet) and trash talking fraggle heel, Josh Koscheck. Without too much further lead-in, here are my calls for tomorrow night's fights. These are the same calls I entered into the UFC Fantasy pick'em and I've been finishing in the top 100 the last bunch of fights so there's that.

Georges St. Pierre vs. Josh Koscheck
Prediction: St. Pierre by Unanimous Decision
Reason: GSP has been unbeatable since that freakish and annoying loss to Matt Serra. I think Kos is a tremendously dangerous opponent for him though as Kos has superb wrestling, is strong like a bull and comes at you with a fury. But GSP is the number one ranked fighter on the planet for a reason. I think GSP will handle Kos, frustrate him and decision him though GSP could be pissed off enough to let his hands go and knock Kos out (remember that wicked KO by Thiago Silva Paulo Thiago (ed note: Ooops!)? GSP is stronger!).
Sean McCorkle vs. Stefan Struve
Prediction: Struve by TKO in Rd. 2

Thiago Alves vs. John Howard
Prediction: Alves by TKO in Rd. 3
Reason: A healthy Thiago Alves is a damned scary Thiago Alves. I think Alves is going to be just too much for Howard to cope with though Howard is certainly no joke. You don't get nicknamed Doomsday because you throw weak hands.

Jim Miller vs. Charles Oliveira
Prediction: Miller by Submission in Rd. 3

Joe Stevenson vs. Mac Danzig
Prediction: Stevenson by Unanimous Decision
Reason: This could be a great fight. Both fighters need a win. Both are scrappers with very good skills. I give the edge in pretty much every category to Stevenson though. He's been in the game longer, fought pretty much every name in his weight class and always comes in to a fight ready. Danzig is a smart fighter who, I think, lacks the power he really needs to be an upper tier guy at the 155 weight class.

Joe Doerksen vs. Dan Miller
Prediction: Miller by Unanimous Decision

Mark Bocek vs. Dustin Hazelett
Prediction: Hazelett by Submission in Rd. 3

Matthew Riddle vs. Sean Pierson
Prediction: Riddle by TKO in Rd. 2

Pat Audinwood vs. John Makdessi
Prediction: Audinwood by TKO in Rd. 2

Jesse Bongfeldt vs. Rafael Natal
Prediction: Bongfeldt by Unanimous Decision

Ricardo Almeida vs. T.J. Grant
Prediction: Almeida by TKO in Rd. 2

Fight of the Night: Alves vs. Howard
Submission of the Night: Hazelett
Knockout of the Night: Struve

That about does it for me. Got your own calls? Post a comment and I'll come and read them and respond. Or you could just tell me where I'm off on my calls if you like.

Either way, it should be a fun night of fights capped off with GSP vs. Kos for the championship belt. Which will be a great way to wrap up a busy, busy day. I'm spending all day Saturday in San Jose building bikes for kids
